Unlike open courts, padel's glass and mesh enclosure is part of the playing surface itself, balls legally rebound off the back and side walls, so the enclosure must be built to the full regulation footprint rather than treated as an optional boundary.
Padel courts use tempered glass panels for the lower 3 to 4 metres of the back and side walls, since the ball legally rebounds off glass during play and it needs to be strong, optically clear and impact-rated. Galvanised mesh is used above the glass line, where ball contact is rare but containment is still required.
