A singles badminton court measures 13.4 m × 5.18 m and a doubles court measures 13.4 m × 6.1 m, but these are playing surface dimensions only. sportsOS recommends a minimum clear floor area of 14.5 m × 7.5 m for any court. The extra space provides safe run-off on all four sides, keeps net pole anchor sockets outside the play zone, and allows comfortable spectator access along one sideline. Ceiling clearance is equally critical: a minimum of 9 m is required to prevent shuttle trajectory interference, and 12 m is preferred for competitive play. Many corporate buildings with standard 3.5–4.5 m floor-to-ceiling heights cannot accommodate badminton indoors, rooftop construction or a purpose-built sports hall is the correct solution in those cases. sportsOS surveys both floor dimensions and ceiling height during the initial site visit at no charge, and will recommend the most practical layout for your specific space.
Yes, most corporate campuses install badminton courts directly over existing RCC slabs, and sportsOS manages this routinely. PU synthetic sports flooring bonds to a prepared concrete base using a two-component polyurethane adhesive. Interlocking polypropylene (PP) tile systems need no adhesive, they lock together mechanically and can be removed and reinstalled if you relocate premises. Rubber mat systems also sit on the slab without bonding. The key prerequisite in all cases is surface preparation: the slab must be flat to within 3 mm over any 3 m span, free from cracks wider than 1 mm, and sufficiently dry (below 75% relative humidity at the surface). Our site audit measures all three parameters with professional instruments. Where the slab is uneven, we apply a self-levelling screed before laying the sports surface, this adds one to two days to the project timeline but ensures the court performs correctly throughout its entire lifespan.

The daily routine is straightforward: dry sweep or microfibre mop at the end of each playing session to remove dust, shuttlecock feathers, and grip tape fragments. Wet cleaning must use only pH-neutral sports floor cleaners, acidic or solvent-based products degrade the polyurethane binder and accelerate surface wear. Never drag equipment carts or furniture across the surface; use rubber-wheeled trolleys or carry equipment manually. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure, which drives UV-related colour fading and can affect the surface's mechanical performance over time. Scuffs from non-marking rubber-soled sports shoes are normal and do not affect playing characteristics. A badminton court footprint readily accommodates basketball half-court, volleyball, pickleball, and shuttle-based cricket practice markings, all applied in distinctly different colours so each sport's lines remain clearly readable during play. PU synthetic and interlocking PP tile surfaces support multi-colour marking extremely well. Wooden sprung floors are also compatible with basketball and volleyball overlays. We advise a practical limit of three overlay sports per surface to keep the court visually clean and unambiguous, beyond that, the floor becomes difficult to read at pace. Colour selection is finalised during the design phase; BWF recommends blue or green as the primary badminton court colour, and we select high-contrast accent colours for each additional sport. Multi-sport line marking adds approximately one day to the installation timeline and is priced separately from the base court installation cost.
